What do I need to do to repair an outside faucet that connects to a garden hose?

faucet repair
bucky asked:

I am not sure if it is the frost type. I live in PA. All i see is the hex head nuts behind the on/off knob Then it all goes back into the siding. I can see anyting else. The faucet has no hose on it now and it leaks when off where the water normally flows out.

turn off water to house,if vinyl siding, you can remove that piece if needed,or have siding guy do it,it is easy for them.then remove valve, could be some soldering needed.then find replacment, and reinstall.if you do not have a water shutoff just inside wall from faucet,(3 ft or so).have one installed so you can shut it off in winter to prevent freeze up.if your basement is not finished, should not be trouble, and if you **** plumbing like me and most others, call a plumber,it will be cheaper in the long run,and you won’t burn your house down soldering the pipes.GOOD LUCK MAN.

go under the house and find where you can turn off the water- or turn off the water for the whole house-probably around your water heater or water softener- not hot water but main water supply. then simply take two pipe wrenches and remove the faucet out side and replace. you might need some one under the house with one of the wrenches to get on the pipe, if you can’t outside. boy this is hard to type out instructions- hope you can understand me- e-mail me if you want- let me know how it went- good luck

Sounds like you need a new washer at the end of the cartridge ,turn off main water suppy or inside shut off valve, if you have a frost ferr turn off main supply. you will need a n ajustable wrench romove the large nut behind handle pull out stem remove black washer and replace it ( buy a complete house hold kit just to keep on hand they come with all sizes and bib screws. P/s when turning off main spray it with some w/d 40 and work it in this will help if you need to shut whole house down in a hurry
