I mean it is not raining in the living room, but I think they have neglected it too long. There may be structural damage. Especially to the roof. I am suddenly the man of the house and as such it usually comes to me to fix holes in drywall, clogged sinks, broken fans etc.

Usually I just go online and read through a few examples of how to handle these problems, but I was hoping someone could recommend a book that describes the general workings of a house, and how to make the best and longest lasting repairs (I like to get things done right the first time).
